The sound system is the most crucial thing while traveling. It will give positive and refreshing vibes. A person like me who always listens to music needs a good sound system in his Jeep Wrangler. Jeep Wrangler does not have a good sound system so you have to upgrade it.
So if you want to know more about the jeep sound system and how to improve it, then stay with me. I will guide you about the best sound system available in the market.
Standard sound system
The Jeep Wrangler was initially created for the Second World War. It passes all the tests and comes as a superb off-road vehicle. But as you know, everything that has advantages also comes with some disadvantages. Sometimes disadvantages can be depressing. Some of its disadvantages include clumsy handling on paved paths and a miserable sound system.
Jeep wrangler’s standard sound system features eight small speakers with no tweeters or subwoofers. To improve the sound system, you can replace these eight small speakers with an amplifier and other devices.
Time-to-Time Upgradation in the Sound System
As you all know Jeep wrangler was a Second World War vehicle, but the company launches a sound system for it in 1987. Here are the sound system details of different jeep wranglers of every era.
- Jeep Wrangler YJ from 1987-1996 has two speakers with a rear sound bar (upper trims only)
- Jeep Wrangler TJ from 1997-2006 has two to four speakers
- Jeep Wrangler JK from 2007-2014 has six speakers. It also has dashboard tweeters
- Jeep Wrangler JL 2015-present has eight speakers, including a rear sound bar and mid-range dashboard speakers.
From the beginning to 2015, this vehicle’s only premium sound system was a seven-speaker 368-watt Infinity with a subwoofer that gives a premium amplified audio system.
Time changes, and in 2015, with Alpine’s collaboration, they introduced a new nine-speaker premium audio system in their vehicles.
If the sound is annoying you, you can skip the sound system as it is an optional feature for normal jeep wranglers. But its standard equipment on the top-of-the-line Rubicon 392 includes an all-weather subwoofer mounted in the rear cargo area and a 552-watt amplifier.
Some other options are standard on all models from 2017, including Apple Car Play smartphone integration and Android Auto. There is another optional feature that will not improve the sound quality but will open several ways of connectivity.
The sound quality will remain the same whether you are playing music via an aux cord, radio, or Bluetooth connection. If you are unsatisfied with the standard sound system like me, you can use aftermarket options to upgrade.

Jeep Wrangler Sound System Ideas
The exact upgrades that your vehicle needs depend on your Jeep model. But here are some of the main upgrades that can improve your sound system, including an amplifier, subwoofers, and new speakers.
Boost the sound with an amplifier
An amplifier is a power to your sound. You can use it to give more power to your sound system. A good amplifier will replace the factory-installed amp. After installing an aftermarket amp, you will feel the difference as I feel. I am using JL Audio Monoblock Class D Subwoofer Amplifier, you can also use the same or find something like that.
Fire up the bass with a subwoofer
A vital component of a stereo upgrade is a subwoofer. The subwoofer makes the sound alive with its bass. And I like the sound system with a woofer. Choose wisely when looking for a subwoofer.
You can use the trunk space where you can install the aftermarket subwoofers. There is also a good space option underneath the seat, as I have installed subwoofers there. But the one thing you must keep in mind is to ensure it is in weather-resistant housing to survive in any Condition or situation.
Now the choice comes to what type of subwoofer you want. If you want a smaller but effective subwoofer you can use the KICKER 11HS8 8″ 150W Hideaway Car Audio Powered Subwoofer. You can also go for Alpine Electronics SBV-10-WRA Pre-Loaded 10″ Subwoofer System.
If you are using a Jeep wrangler 2018 or up model, the best option for your vehicle is SSV Works 10″ Subwoofer Enclosure with Kicker Comp RT Woofer, which will give a fantastic sound and can easily fit in the trunk.
Everybody knows what speakers do. Upgrading the speakers is the simplest and the most common thing to upgrade the Sound system of the Jeep Wrangler.
Remember that you must spend a lot of cash to buy and upgrade aftermarket speakers. Jeep Wrangler has very complex inner workings. I used to do my vehicle’s thing by myself, but I needed to familiarize myself with the complex interior, so I hired a professional to install the speakers.
Factory-installed speakers are small in size and have a complex interior, making an upgrade or repair a challenge. So I suggest you take professional services.
One more thing; you must decide if you want to upgrade a specific vehicle area or all your speakers—some upgrade the rear overhead sound bar, and some swap front speaker pods.
Lastly, you have to choose between two types of speakers.
- component speakers,
- coaxial speakers
If you have no financial problems, you can choose component speakers that deliver a more precise sound quality. And if you are short of money, you can go with coaxial speakers that are cheap and good in sound quality.
There are many options in the market, but here is some top Stereo.
- Alpine Rear Soundbar Upgrade Kit:
- JL Audio Coaxial Speaker System:
- MQ Quart Complete Front Dash 3-Way Speakers:
- Alpine R-Series 2-Way Component Speakers:
There is another option you can get an OEM rear door speaker if you own an older wrangler from pre-2015.
Jeep Wrangler Speakers for Roll Bar
Another exciting thing about the jeep wrangler is that two speakers are in the roll bar both Jeep wranglers have seven or four speakers. You can easily remove them from the roll bar by removing the screws and can easily install aftermarket speakers by removing the factory-installed speakers in your vehicle.
Upgrading the sound is essential to customize your ride, and a person like me needs a good sound system to survive. There are only a few but three things to upgrade the sound system. The amplifier will give more power to the sound, and the speakers allow the sound to be loud and clear. A good quality speaker is essential for good sound. If you want to add more flavors, you can use an aftermarket subwoofer that can add a base to music, and you can enjoy it.
