On-Road User Review of Yamaha MT-03

Here’s the Hamish Review of Yamaha Mt-03 and he share his thoughts about his bike:

“I couldn’t be happier with this bike. Sorry not sorry if the following is long and rambling. I needed a reliable commuter to get to work. My old bike (GN250) was worn out after I added 40,000km to it over the past 5 years (25k in the last year), was starting to break down, and was a bit slow for keeping up with highway traffic. As I am an Analyst by trade I read and watched every comparison of bikes in this class, read every review, and watched every YouTube video… followed by spreadsheets and cost/benefit analyses… and decided that if I could get one, the mt-03 was what I wanted.

Due in no small part to the reviews on this website, I looked at prices on secondhand Mt-03s, but found it was actually cheaper to buy new thanks to the great finance offer from Yamaha. And I’d get 2 yrs unlimited km warranty. Coming into winter, reliability was key. Also, I was keen to have ABS as the roads are in poor shape where I live, its winter, and the roads have been covered in grit. After visiting the friendly and helpful folks at the local Yamaha dealer, I went for a quick test ride. After mulling it over for a week I had to lock it in after my wife gave it the OK for its looks (in yellow) 🙂 $7000 NZ.

Two months and 4000km later, I couldn’t be happier. For 321cc’s, the bike has great acceleration and cruises at above 100 kmph very happily, just dropping it down a gear to pass traffic, up to 135+ real quick! My commute is 50 km each way, 30 mins highway and 15-20 min urban. The bike is comfortable for me at 80 kg and 1.78m.

The bike is incredibly stable at low speed, high speed, and in really windy conditions. Fuel economy is close to 30 km per liter if I drive gently, but lately, it’s been only 25 km per liter.

Buyer Guide (Old / New Price)

The MT-03 is a user-friendly bike that costs $4,999 in brand-new condition. And for some reason, if you cannot buy a newer one, you can buy a used MT-03 for just $3,995 – $4,600. Additionally, Maintenance is minimal on this bike, making it an excellent choice.

Final Thoughts

Yamaha MT-03 is a naked sports bike with low engine specs and a variety of features. This is a good option if you are a beginner and want to learn bike riding. Furthermore, it can also be a good choice for the in-town commute due to its lightweight, excellent handling, and bump-absorbing suspension. Although it’s not a Dual sports motorcycle but due to its excellent quality suspension it can perform off-road as well.

You can also take this bike for long rides without any thoughts of discomfort and back pain. Overall this bike is a perfect pack of utility and fun, so you can consider it when buying a bike in this category.
