Yamaha WR 250R is a dual sport riding bike with a 250cc single-cylinder engine. Both 250 mm front and 230 mm rear brakes are hydraulic. Yamaha added a fuel Injection system and liquid cooling system in it. It’s a versatile bike with 21 inches front and 18 inches rear tire; it can go on both trails and roads. It has a led display, led headlights, and an electric start option, making it more convenient than competitors.

Mid-Sized Engine

As it is a street base bike, its engine is also street oriented. It has a DOHC 250 cc engine with a single-cylinder. Yamaha added a Liquid cooled cooling system to prevent its engine from overheating. It has smooth and predictable peak power at 10,000 RPM and 71 mpg. 

Ignition and Transmission 

Yamaha WR 250R has a TCI ignition system with a direct ignition coil that integrates an electric meze. Its bore and stroke size are 77.0 x 53.6 mm (3.0 x 2.1 inches) with a compression ratio of 11.8:1. Although it is not a drag race bike with this aggressive compression ratio, it can produce enough power that can take it anywhere.

It has six gear transmission that uses a multiple clutch system. The multi-plate clutch has an involuntary cam chain tensioner. Overall it’s a good bike that has worthy transmission.


It’s an excellent bike to ride on roads and for beginners. But its rear shock has poor rebound damping, making it uncontrollable on rough terrain. However, its inverted front fork and rear single-shock suspension can be the best option for a beginner. 

The front fork has 269 mm (10.6 inches) travel, and the rear shock has 269 mm (10.6 inches). Its suspension is adjustable and quite comfortable, but it can be uncomfortable if your weight is over 200 lb.
